Oliver Bailey

Oliver went to live in Southern WI with Betsy. She writes: Oliver at the park helping me to flag invasive shrubs, one of which, Buckthorn, could be the model for the monster plant from Little Shop of Horrors, in that it gobbles up (out-competes) everything in its path. If I didn't know better, I'd bet that Oliver watched that movie over and over again, perfecting Audrey the plant's methods for constant food acquisition. "Feed Me, Seymour", she would demand! If I keep the word "cookie" somewhere in the conversation, he is more apt to be this alert! He's a good boy, an expert snuggler, real fan of the automotive experience, getting better about walking on leash and he has become quite fond of Rose. He seldom rests in daylight, as you will see the blur.

Teddy Tucker Teddy Tucker

We want to Thank the Lakeshore Group for finding Teddy (now known as Teddy Tucker) for us. He has fit into the family very well, getting along with all four of our cats. We are especially pleased that he and our 16 yr. old senior cat, Blueberry, have hit it off just fine. He loves going for walks on our 12 acres and at some of the local public parks, walking pretty well on a leash. Teddy Tucker enjoys playing fetch. He comes well, but we are still working on the "drop it" and "wait". Raspberries, right off the plant are a favorite snack. Soft toys are his favorite, especially indoors. When he comes in from the last walk of the night, about 10 PM. we say "Teddy Tucker, are you ready for bed?" and he runs right into his crate. Again, we say Thank you and want you to know how much we are enjoying each other. Gerald and Mary, Michigan

Bailey Bailey

To all of our friends at Lakeshore: A progress report and thanks for bringing Bailey (aka Bindy) into our lives. Attached are a couple of picture for your success stories. Bailey is the love of our lives and has completely taken over the house! She loves her yard, her various play spots in the house and of course her daily series of walks. While she and our cat have not yet become buddies, the cat has come to realize that she is here to stay and has rather reluctantly accept her. She has made friends with many of the neighborhood dogs and has a “boyfriend” miniature schnauzer that absolutely goes nuts in his window when she goes by. They are so cute together. Thanks to all of you for your help in bringing Bailey into our lives. Erin and Gloria (and Bailey too!!) in IL

Skylar Skylar

Skylar is fitting in just great . She and Joker have had not so much as a growl at each other, in fact they really seem to like each other. She follows his lead a lot while she gets used to my commands. Took her to lake Michigan the other day and she just did whatever Joker did, if he went in the water , she went in the water. The first time Joker went to the big lake he was terrified but now he loves it.. she took to it great so maybe she already had some experience. she went to soccer games today and she was swamped by kids and she loved it.. she is a people dog. and also she is no worries when encountering other dogs.. It has been an all round good experience for all of us. I have no intention of returning her. Thanks.

TokiToki

Toki is doing very well. He seems to be happy, following us everywhere, giving lots of kisses and playing well with Maggie and Thunder. Slept well last night in Hannah's bed. He hasn't had any accidents and there have only been a few small nips and growls between dogs. Mostly if he gets stepped on or tripped over. He really likes to be with people and is very much wanting to please us with his tricks. Thank you so much for everything you did, you made Hannah a very happy girl. AND a recent UPDATE: I have attached a couple of pictures of Toki and Hannah. He is doing great. He has settled in and is fitting in well with everyone. He adores Hannah and went to his first dog class and loved it. We are really enjoying having him. Enjoy the pictures, Genii

Joey Joey

Joey has been such a wonderful addition to our family. He is a sweet, caring and charismatic corgi. We have never owned a dog and we were so lucky that Nancy (Joey's foster mom) selected our family as Joey's home. As first time dog owners, we are dutiful about taking him for walks 2x/day and giving him lots of pets and love. There are so many different walks to take in the city it keeps life interesting for Joey. Every street takes us to a new adventure. He loves waiting outside the library with mom for Juliana to select her books and walk home. He loves going to the soccer practices and watch all the kids kick around the ball. Lake Michigan walks are especially interesting with the dog beach, which we have yet to tackle. The kids love to cuddle with Joey and watch movies on the couch or sit in the back seat of the car and have him place his chin on their lap. Our 2 cats are slowly getting used to Joey and I am sure will come around. He is something very different for both Belle and Velvet (our rescue Russian Blue kitties). All in all, the love he radiates is visible to all who see him. He is a happy boy and so is his family. Thanks Nancy for taking the time to care for, love and train Joey so he could make a smooth transition into our home. Love, Paradiso Family in Chicago

DaphneDaphne

Daphne, the senior Pem, has been with me for about six weeks and she is a pure joy! She is so calm and sweet, and more of her funny personality comes out every day. She seems to have settled in really well, and now has a large extended family who loves to shower her with all the attention, and belly rubs she can handle! She is a champion lounger, and two of her favorite spots are the deck and my bed. She knows exactly where her treats are kept, and will not let me forget that she expects one after coming in from outside! I am so happy that she is with me and now I can’t imagine my life without her! A big thanks to Herb and his family for taking such good care of Daphne before she came to me! Kathy

Tucker Tucker

I received Tucker through your adoption program about one year ago, and we've been best friends ever since! He is always so happy and excited to be with people! He is a joy to everyone he meets and so obedient and loving! My life was not complete without him! Claudia.

BusterBuster

Here are some pictures of Buster and the kids. They just love him and he seems right at home.
Thank you for taking care of him and allowing us to adopt him!

Thanks,

CharlieCharlie

Thought you'd like an update on how Charlie is doing. We couldn't be happier with him!! He has adjusted so well to us and our home and is so sweet to Bridget. They play together and have so much fun. They love their daily walks and love to play chase me! While taking them for their walks, I have met several people who have admired them, finding them irresistibly cute! . With their friendliness, good manners on leash and, of course, those good corgi looks, they're like a couple of little "good will ambassadors" for Pembrokes in general!

TeddyTeddy

Teddy has quickly become the star of our home. His picture and story have made it to friends and family all over the US and the UK. He's a star! He has found his place in our home and we look forward to as many years as possible with him. He is very intelligent and quickly learns commands. He has learned that when my hand goes into my pocket that there is a treat coming. Didn't take him long to figure that out! Thanks Lakeshore Rescue for your work and diligence. Jef and Paula in Wisconsin

JeterJeter

Yvette,
Chris and I just wanted to give you an update on Jeter. We have had him to the vet and he appears healthy and with no problems. Jeter is adjusting very nicely. He can now walk on leash without pulling, except when he sees a bird or squirrel. He is meeting some dogs around the house and on the walking trial with Chris. He can now sit, stay, lay down, and give. He has a few favorite toys and has been wonderful in the house. He is a great dog and a great companion for us.
Thank you for fostering him and letting us meet him.
Andrew and Chris in IL.

BirdieBirdie

In early September, 2008, Nancy contacted me about possibly fostering a Corgi that was in the Rice County Humane Society. I agreed to go pick up the dog when they were ready to release her. When we picked her up, we realized at that very moment that we had FAILED Fostering 101-Birdie and all of her 11 years was going to live with us forever! She was sick from the spay the humane society did on her, but once she bounced back to health, she was the dog of our dreams! She is shy of men, doors, and stairs, but is working through it and my son loves to snuggle with her. She is the perfect dog for us and our apartment! We love her to pieces!

AnnieAnnie

Here are some pictures of Annie. The first is in the creek at the nature preserve where she loves to walk (and eat raspberries). The smile on her face is reserved especially for being at Kokiwanee Nature Preserve in Indiana. The next is a picture of Annie in the wonderful bed we bought for her. Annie was taken off the streets of Detroit by Detroit Animal Control as she was wandering alone there. All the ruff on her neck was gone . It appeared she had been chained somewhere. When we got her, she went into the crate and stayed there thinking that was her place. When she found out she could live with us she was ecstatic!

She is a long way from the dirty streets of Detroit where she was a stray 3 years ago. We adopted her June 9, 2006

StarStar

Star gets a new home in MN with Kathy. Kathy writes: Star is doing great! She is a terrific little dog! She melted everyone’s heart the minute that they saw her. She has adjusted very well, wants lots of attention. She’s been sleeping in bed with me and has adjusted well. There’s been a little jockeying for position with Tommy the young lab but he knows he’s on the bottom of the dog totem pole so they’ve figured that out. He also has taught her to chase him around the wall dividing the kitchen and the living room. That was really funny to watch. He would grab a toy and wave it in her face and run. It only took her a day to figure out what he wanted. They seem to have bonded the most, but that’s understandable because they are the two youngest. She comes when she’s called and loves to go in the car. Don’t worry about her, we love her already! We are so glad you picked us to be her family!

Just thought I’d let you know everything is great here. Attached is a picture of Daisy and Tommy at the cabin. She loves it there – birds to chase, swimming to be done, sticks to chew up, logs to jump over….so much to do! She runs with Tommy on the island and is a very tired dog when we go home. He has long legs and hers are so short in comparison, she has to really move to keep up! She is such a wonderful little dog and we love her to pieces! Take care,Kathy in MN

SheldonSheldon

Wrangler, now called Sheldon finds a new home in WI with LeAnn. Sounds like things are going well! LeeAnn wrote that the initial introduction to Madison, our Papillon, and Chloe our cat went very well. Nose to nose, and kisses. Sheldon follows me around, not letting me out of his sight. I have a side entrance and fenced in yard is a few steps away, and he just follows me right there to the back yard. And his butt wiggles when he saw me coming to bring him in.

DellaDella

Della is doing just fine. I take her to work with me everyday and she is adjusting well(Deborah works in a Nursing Home). She has won the hearts of everyone in the building. She totally ignores the cats which is good. She has the sweetest personality and has already learned “sit” . “Come” is still a work in progress but it has only been a little over a week. That is hard to believe, cuz it seems like she has always been with us. Thank you so much for all your help with letting us adopt her. She has filled a void in our lives.

MaxzMaxz

IJust letting you know Maxz is doing Great. He is fitting in just perfectly. Jacob & I have been taking him to Peach Mountain for 2 hour walks on the weekend. Along with his daily walks. He is such a nice addition to the family. He gets along great with everyone. I just wanted to thank you again for the little guy. :o) Camen & Maxz in Michigan!

TuckerTucker

I just wanted to give you a little update. Tucker is doing really well. He has calmed down so much, He is such a sweetie. He loves his twice daily walks. He lets us know if we forget or try to put it off due to rain. He absolutely loes Greg, which is so good for him. We can't wait to take him on a road trip for Easter...his first since moving in with us. Bella is also becoming very attached to Tucker.

Lisa

Dear Foster Mom Nancy,

I just wanted to take some time out to tell you hi and let you know how things are going. Because of you, I feel like I have a whole new start. My mom tells me that I am doing better all the time. I really like it here. I have learned I am a real people dog. I have been having lots of family visiting our new house. I love when that happens. My favorite thing is to get hugs from all of our family. I even like all of the neighbors at my new house. One neighbor of ours rescued a puppy a couple of years ago. He said I have given him more affection in the couple of times I have seen him than his dog has in years. That made me so proud.

I am also doing better with letting people touch my ears, etc. We discovered that I probably have allergies so I sometimes get some medicine to help my ears. I also recently broke a toenail. But, I don’t hesitate to let my mom spray some medicine on it so it does not get infected. She even gave me a bath last week rather than take me to the groomer. She was very patient with me but I eventually let her give me a bath. I also find I do not get crabby as often as I used to.

For Thanksgiving we are having my dad’s family come to our house. I can’t wait. There is even a new baby, which I got to see for the first time last weekend. My cousins are also bringing their chocolate lab to our house. I have never met her before, so we will see how that goes. I sometimes get scared of big dogs. For Christmas, I am going to go up to Wisconsin. I also get to see my cousins’ dog that is a golden retriever. Mom says I am doing so well that I am ready to meet my four legged cousins, even if they are bigger than me. I really love riding in the back of the car with my little sister when we go on road trips. Don’t tell anyone, but sometimes I even cuddle up with my little sister at home when we sleep. I know, that is so unlike me but I am becoming a different dog.

I owe it all to you. You gave me a chance when no one else would. Do you believe it has been 6 months since we last saw each other? People are always surprised when they hear how bad I used to be. I now realize that it is better to love everyone around me that to have things my way. Thank you for helping me see that.

Love, Tucker in Indiana

PS, I attached a picture of me resting on one of my beds (I have two). I should tell you too that I don’t need my crate anymore. I find that I am so secure with my new family that I don’t need my crate like I used to. I am one lucky dog!

CoreyCorey

Dear Yvette, I adopted my corgi from Lakeshore as a 4 month old in 2005, before the rescue was a separate entity. I read the success stories on your web page regularly. They often bring tears to my eyes. I'd like to share my success story. I included some photos of Corey's accomplishments. He is smart, fun to work with and live with, and the most affectionate dog I've ever had. Shirley and AGI,UCDX He's a Corker UD, RE, NA, AXJ

Benji Benji

Benji is doing well. We have achieved a people/dog equilibrium. He still gets all hyper if more that 2 people are in the same room. The squirt bottle works well though. He loves walking. He really is a good boy and we enjoy his company. He is still on his diet food and I'm sure it's working. My sister gave me some mushers wax for his feet and he cooperates fully when I put it on. No fights with nail care either!! Thank you so much for letting Benji come home with us and for working with us after. Hope you and all your grown dogs and puppies are doing well. Happy New Year! Barbara and Benji

CharlieCharlie

Charlie was the well behaved one in this picture I took for our Christmas card last year! :) We put a goat bell on his collar when he is out at my parents farm, that way he has free roam of the place, but we can still tell where he is. After the first month my dad said "we have to come up with something...he stays around, but he's so darn short I can't always figure out where he is!" The bell is great, that way we know what trouble he is getting into. I'll say Charlie, want to go the the farm??? and he races to the door and waits for his bell! SO darn cute! Thanks again for all of your help, I will keep you posted on his progress! -Kate

BaxterBaxter

Thought you might like to see how spoiled Bax is. He is quite happy with all the attention, and is quite sure that he rules the kingdom!!! Anyway, hope you have a great holiday season!!! Thanks again!! Tabitha, Missy, Kim and Kairi.

Gilligan, now Van Gogh, enjoyed a happy holiday 2008 with his family.

Van Gogh 2

Here is Van Gogh(formally Castaway Gilligan) with his new baby brother. We had a baby in May this year. Van Gogh LOVES him!! We were hoping he would take to him and he really really has. He is gentle and just the right amount of protective. He is sooo good with the baby and just licks his toes to say hello each day. Van Gogh is SUCH a good doggie, we could NEVER be without him.

CharlotteCharlottte

Just wanted to drop you a note to let you know how WONDERFUL Charlotte is! She is delightful and we are so thankful to have her join our family. Now that she is more comfortable, more and more of her personality is coming out and she can be quite a 'hoot'! She tries to herd the kids when they're outside playing! I've attached a picture of Emma and Charlotte....more to come. Thanks again for helping us find her....we couldn't be more happy. Susan

SimonSimon

He is a complete JOY and he has stolen my heart, along with Sassy's (a 19 yr old corgi mix) They are inseparable. I am sure he was meant for her. Thanks Lakeshore for making the match possible.

BearBear

Just wanted to take the time to let you know that Bear is doing great. He has been here for nearly 7 months now and I think he really enjoys living here with me and my other Corgie “Doolie”. They both get along nicely (most of the time), and especially like to play tug of war with each other. He is well mannered and haven’t had any problems. He has to be around me all the time and sleeps on the bed without an inch between us. Loves to go for walks, almost everyday (weather permitting) and chasing tennis balls around the yard. Allergies were a problem when I brought him home, so my vet suggested feeding him wheat and corn free food and they disappeared within a few weeks which was a big relief for him since he would scratch himself continiuosly. He is camera shy or maybe camera scared, so it’s kind of difficult to get a decent photo of him. I did manage to take a few when he wasn’t looking. I want to thank Lakeshore for a really great Corgie and making it possible for me to be a part of his life. Eric

ToffeeToffee

Tasha is doing great, we named her Toffee. We have her gated in the kitchen & kenneled when we're not home & at night. I'm sending you a photo of her running with my 2 Laekenois, they have a good time together. Toffee likes to wrestle with Emerie. The other photos is Rianne with everybody. Toffee fits in perfectly with our family, thank you for letting us take her home. Heidi

FessorFessor Naps

Castaway Professor went to his new forever home on July 27th near Milwaukee, WI.

He now has a Golden Retriever sister, Rose, who was also a puppy mill rescue. They are getting on very well together.

Fessor, as he is now known as, is enjoying long walks in the meadows and then enjoys a comfy nap afterwards. His new mom reports: "Early this morning, with clear and lovely weather, we went back to the prairie where he ran yesterday, and he stayed right with us on the path.  So, he's our prairie dog now.  His name is apropos of the great Professor Aldo Leopold, a Wisconsin prairie and reforestation advocate."

His mom is thrilled to have him and is enjoying watching him come out of his shell and blossom into a real corgi! Ah, life is good for Fessor!!

ThurstonThurston

Castaway Thurston Howell, now know as Cash, found a wonderful home with a new family here in Marathon County, WI., in July. So I will get to see him. He was immediately taken with "his" new children and is enjoying daily walks and even has been going camping! What a lucky Castaway! He had a rough start in life and now is getting the love he so deserves! He has a good job now of keeping these delightful kids happy and I am sure he will bring years of corgi fun to them.

MaizeyMaisy

I wanted to give you an update on Maizey (formerly Lovey).  She's been doing great!!!  She is starting to get better at her walks, meaning she doesn't need to be carried as much during them to keep up with her younger and quicker brothers.  Also, she is slowly starting to try to play with them.  She doesn't quite know what to make of them when they are running around all crazy, but the other night she started to chase our other Corgi Desmond in the yard.  He loved it!!!

She is playing more and more with her toys and especially loves this orange monkey that squeals and makes her come running and cocks her head at it.  She definitely loves her treats and is getting better about not pottying in the house, but not quite perfect yet.

Here are some more pictures of her, hope all is well with the other Castaways.

Ryan, Rachel and Maizey

GidgetGidget

We wanted you to know Gidget is doing very well, has staked out her favorite spot, and is definitely our little princess.  I take her to farmer's market, and Pet Smart.  She likes riding and enjoys outings.  She's good with some dogs, not others (doesn't seem to care much for Pugs). She's great with people, too.  So, thanks again - we love her!

Ed and Sheila

CooperCooper

Cooper came to us as an out of control corgi that just needed an understanding and gentle hand to guide him into the good life. He sure is enjoying his forever home with his new parents, Dan and Don in Minnesota. The following is a note from the people that Cooper owns!

Hi there, It has been a while since we checked in with you but just thought I would send some pictures of our recent "family" vacation. Cooper doesn't much care for water but he sure had a good time exploring. He is doing so well. We could not have asked for a more loving, beautiful dog. Don, Dan and Cooper

SadieSadie

I just wanted to let you know that Sadie is doing great here with me.  She is at a consistent and healthy 25 lbs. and will apparently eat almost ANY type of food, including banana peels if I would let her!  She is very good with everyone she meets and has even won over my mother!  My mother gets the biggest kick out of watching Sadie hide and later "find" her rawhide treats.  My 26 yr. old son said, 'She's so cute it hurts!'  I can totally understand why her previous owner called her Snuggles - she is very affectionate and is rarely out of my sight.  Sadie has brought a wonderful change to my life and I thank you for making it possible.

BuddyBuddy now Tupper

I wanted to let the Rescue know that Buddy, formerly Tupper, has settled in nicely. Buddy has passed his obedience training, loves taking long walks, car rides and protecting us from rampaging squirrels and robins. We are considering agility and herding training and have found a herding trainer close to us. We are working on clicker training/hand commands for herding. We do love love this little guy. He is so smart, cuddly and all round the best corgi in the world.
Thank you so much for bringing him into our family,
Kim

ThistleThistle

Thistle now resides with Al and Lou Anne and is a very happy girl... We are so happy to have this beautiful girl in our home. She loves to ride in the car and sleeps in our bed. We are thrilled to have her. Thanks Lakeshore for making it possible.

BoBo

I wanted to again thank you for bringing Bo into my life, we get along great. I have enclosed a photo of Bo taken in his back yard just a couple of days ago. We have completed a six week obedience class recently and learned a lot about each other. I wanted to pass along my admiration to you and all that Lakeshore does to bring these animals and their stewards together. It’s amazing how well we have bonded; he is usually close by and happy.

Romeo

He is a lover, isn't he !!! The name just fits him. We have had long talks and I told Romeo he is home now and not moving anymore. He is such a snuggler. He likes all the attention we give him. Thanks for my wonderful boy and all you've done for both of us.

Rascal

Happy New Year. Just a quick note to say Hi. Everything is going great down here in Madison. Rascal spent a week at camp grandparents with two other dogs and seems to have had a great time. Aimee and I are getting better and better at talking so Rascal can understand, and he is listening better each month. We finished another 6-week agility class which is fun and allows us to have more faith in Raskal around other dogs while 'off-leash'. We are taking a small break from agility - there are plenty of other fun activities to try. He just loves the snow and chasing snowballs.

EllaElla

Ella is wonderful !  She sat next to me Sunday and watched football.  Loves to be petted.  She plays hedgehog with Luke.  She even pretends she doesn't know where he threw it occasionally so that Charlie gets a turn.  Isn't that sweet?

Sunny

Just a note to let you know that everything is going well with Sunny! She seems to be adapting very good. Her and Tigger started playing together real nice yesterday. She didn't want to get in Dave's car yesterday when he was going on a short ride, but I think she was worried that he would take her away from our home and not bring her back, so she came back into the house and stayed with me. The grand kids (ages 4 and nearly 3) were over for a bit last night .

GingerGinger

Ginger has already learned her name and is coming when called. She is VERY smart. We have had absolutely no chewing issues with her. The few times she has gotten a hold of something she shouldn't you tell her to sit and offer her something else and she's drops the item. She really is a very well mannered dog.

FarleyFarley

Farley is growing and changing so much! His ears stand up most of the time, but they droop when he is pooped out. I have attached some pictures of our camping trip. He wasn't too fond of biking, but LOVED canoeing. He jumped out of the boat and swam along next to us-- it was too funny. He has a cute little life jacket for when we go boating-- and he knows what it means when we put it on him-- he gets so excited! I am also happy to report that he has graduated obedience school!

CodyCody

Cody is such a happy dog! We love his energy and enthusiasm. He likes to be with us, but he's also good about entertaining himself. Lately, he's been whiling away the hours chasing grasshoppers. He wades and swims, loves to ride in the car, and has fun with other dogs. Thank you for letting us have this wonderful little creature.

DannyDanny

Danny has settled in nicely. He adores the kids and the one cat, he hasn't won over Gracie, the other cat yet. We celebrated his birthday and the kids got him a stuffed duck, it quacks when he picks it up. We are so glad to have him. Thanks, Lakeshore for making if possible.
